February 23, 1907, almost two years after her passing, Martha was posthumously granted citizenship into the Muscogee Creek Nation. More than two years later, she was issued the Restricted Homestead to which she was entitled.
A family led project is underway to address the loss of this land and other elements of inheritance. Research is being done to establish and prove the deceptive practices and decisions leading to the loss of Martha's inheritance and legacy. To support this initiative, a GoFund Me campaign has been established allowing family members to contribute towards the costs related to research, investigation and legal representation. |
What began with Martha Parker and continued with her descendants is now ours to carry forward. We are all the product and keepers of her legacy. The story she set in motion has been playing out in the years following. This story is our story ~ ours to understand, celebrate, protect and foster.
One way to understand and celebrate this legacy is to connect with the history, experiences and knowledge of our current elders. Family In The Spotlight is a project where a member of our younger generation will interview a member of our older generation with the intent of understanding more about where our family has come from and what experiences have influenced life, love, careers and pursuits. The elder will be highlighted on one of our Family Calls by the member of the younger generation who interviewed them and also shared here. A support questionnaire has been developed to assist the discussion but is not meant to restrict other areas of discussion.
